An Ebony Basket Top Table Timepiece With Silent Pull-Quarter Repeat
Case: Case of ebony on oak with a cast brass basket top decorated with cornucopia, swags of fruit, flowers and cherubs with a foliage and dolphin head handle, four small urn finials over a moulded cornice, the sides with repousse frets and glazed below, with gilt estutcheons and sound fret to the glazed front door on a moulded plinth with brass bun feet.
Dial: 6 inch saquare brass dial with winged cherub head spandrels and silvered Roman and Arabic chapter-ring with half-hour marks, the matted centre with decorated date aperture below XII.
Duration: 8 day
Movement: 5 by 6 inch plates with five baluster pillars, single fusee, with verge escapement, pull repeating, sounding the hours and quarters on two bells. The line border backplate with tulips and entwined foliage signed Nathanael Hodges in Wine Office Courte in Fleet Street Londini Fecit over three lines.
Escapement: Knife-edge verge.
Strike type: Timepiece with silent pull-quarter repeat.
